Belgium v Algeria is the 6th episode of International Factball, and the 20th episode of 2014. It features presenters James Harkin, Andrew Hunter Murray, Anna Ptaszynski, and Dan Schreiber, and was recorded at the QI Offices in Covent Garden, London.

Example Facts[]

  • A large group of Algerians publicly ate lunch during Ramadan to protest the persecution of those who do not observe it. (Murray)
  • In 1856 the Marabout people of Algeria, who claimed they could do magic, rose up against their French imperial rulers. Napoleon III sent the greatest French magician, Houdin, to quell the uprising. Houdin inspired the name of Houdini. (Ptaszynski)

  • Baarle-Hertog has white crosses on the floor marking the Belgium-Netherlands border, and each house displays the flag of the country it belongs to. (Harkin)

Half Time Show[]

As Factball is made in association with VisitEngland, the presenters ask three trivia questions about England during half time, and provide answers at the end.

  • The only town in England named after a novel is Westward Ho! in Devon, which is also the only town with punctuation in its name. (Murray)
  • John Mytton, known as "Mad Jack", gave everyone in Shrewsbury £10 in 1819 as a bribe to vote for him so he could become an MP. (Harkin)
  • The Queen of England can be addressed in many ways, but Brian Blessed likes to call her "Knuckles" because, when they meet, she smacks him on the knuckles to chastise him for always going on dangerous adventures. She also makes him say "Gordon's Alive!" (Schreiber)

Winner[]

As chosen by Harkin, Belgium.
